Stephen Morgan, MD

Dr. Stephen Morgan is a provider with Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, board certified in Internal Medicine and specializing in Hospital Medicine. Dr. Morgan earned his medical degree from Augusta University and completed his residency at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

Dr. Morgan is a hospitalist — a physician who practices only in the hospital. He has more than 20 years of experience, and throughout those years, he has increasingly valued continuity of care.

Typically, when a patient is admitted to the hospital, they'll see many different providers. Dr. Morgan prefers a concierge-style approach. Rather than simply seeing a patient for a day or two, his goal is to admit his own patients and personally follow them throughout their hospital stay. He believes this continuity offers ideal communication, improved coordination of care, and stronger relationships with patients and their families. During a patient's stay, Dr. Morgan is happy to keep loved ones up to date — even if they're not present, he'll give them a call if a patient asks.

One of Dr. Morgan's areas of interest is point-of-care ultrasound. He is one of the few physicians in the region to earn formal certification in clinical ultrasonography. He uses ultrasound every day as an extension of his physical examination, helping answer important diagnostic questions in real time. When certain procedures are needed, he'll frequently perform these under ultrasound guidance at the bedside, offering improved safety while making the experience more comfortable and convenient.

Dr. Morgan was among the original group of hospitalists when NGPG’s hospitalist group was established in 2010. Since then, he's had the opportunity to serve in several leadership roles and currently serves as chair of credentialing for NGHS. However, his greatest passion has always been caring for patients. His Christian faith has been an important influence throughout his life and career, as he strives to treat all patients with respect.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Morgan enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, building competition-style sandcastles, learning Spanish, and spending time on the lake.
